Hi all, have done another pass on the website, and added committee details, Nottingham Info, and few other bits. Some observations (plus one or two other notes on the whiteboard):
  • Calendar - there are size limits on the Google Calendar description, and also formatting issues with the display that the plugin produces (plus it seems to have cached some stuff I put in then deleted).
  • For pics, probably easiest to load into Flickr and reference - shall we set up a FOSS4G account, and does anyone have a favourite WP plugin?
  • Twitter plugin - would be good if it linked to our Twitter account, but doesn't seem to - shall we use a different plugin?
We can pick all this up when we meet unless anyone has any immediate thoughts.

Jo Cook on August 30, 2012:

Hi Antony,

Calendar issues are css afaict
Twitter- should be picking up @foss4g?

Jo

Antony Scott on August 30, 2012:

Jo

Calendar: the main issue is the lack of space for descriptions in Google Calendar. We might need to find a way of linking to fuller descriptions elsewhere. I won’t attempt the CSS I’m afraid.
Twitter: yes it’s linking to the right account, just couldn’t see how to get to the account itself – have now found it (‘More updates’). Maybe we can put in a Twitter button somewhere.

Thanks for adding the committee details and some contact stuff. I have a contact form on my site that forwards messages without exposing my address, you could include the link http://knowwhereconsulting.co.uk/contact/ on the contact page until we have anything better re sponsorship.

It would be great if we could get a page up for sponsorship soon after the F2F where we can publicise the details (I think a page is better than a download, what do you think?).

Cheers
Steven

OK, contact added. Agree pages wherever possible.

Notes from our (Rollo and my) call today:
  • Most content which is available is already up.
  • Design: put a call out on the mailing list and other channels for design input to site (AS) - top priority. Brief to be developed with designer, but keep clean and simple with Denver is the default model. If no volunteers, consider paying
  • Google Calendar not very tidy - suggest replacing with simple list of key dates, to be selectively added from Steven's project plan (Antony)
  • Jo will work on blog aggregator
  • Interactive map - NGI may be able to build something along the lines of the Denver map (see ref in doc) - JM
  • Other widgets (eg countdown clock, flickr feed, better Twitter?) - look around and also discuss as part of design process
  • Relaunch/remind logo comp (Rollo)
  • Create Flickr account (Rollo)
  • Add other content as available according to doc above (eg Sponsorship), but don't create pages until we have content for them
  • Use BaseCamp to keep in touch over next couple of weeks - call in week of 24th if necc
  • (Rollo, you have a login for the WP site - let me know if you need details)

Antony Scott on September 14, 2012:

Hi all

FYI I have made a few tweaks to the site, incl
  • Added key dates and programme graphic (to replace calendar)
  • Added a simple OSM map page (using OSM plugin)
  • Posted the request for a designer

Sweet :)

Steven Feldman on September 14, 2012:

Just got a message that http://foss4g.org/ is still pointing to a Beijing page. Can we rectify?

Jo Cook on September 17, 2012:

Done- note that it never pointed at a Beijing page- it's a holding page with all the past events on it. Anyhow, it now has a temporary logo for Nottingham, with the dates, which we can easily get changed when we have a design of our own.

Steven Feldman on September 18, 2012:

Thanks

Jeremy Morley on September 24, 2012:

Not sure if this is the best place to tack this on but 2013.foss4g.org is down with an "Error establishing a database connection" message. Can anyone fix this?

Jo Cook on September 24, 2012:

Fixed- someone made an extremely determined attempt to hack the site- they got locked out by our wordpress security but made enough attempts to kill the database.

Currently I'm the only one able to administer it at command-prompt level as it's on my Amazon instance, but I'll stick a bit of monitoring on, and think about who I can also give the keys (digital, not literal) to so that they can log in if I'm away, like today, when I was diving in Oban...
