Hi,

Part of the code in org/geotools/caching/spatialindex was indeed
derived from Mario's work.
I reused the design he proposed ; however, I finally ended keeping
mostly the interfaces, as I had to reimplement most of the code to fit
my purpose.
Files that used Mario's original code mention the original copyright
notice in the header, as you stated.

Files under org/geotools/caching/firstdraft were kept for history and
can be discarded, as code is certainly not functional any more.
