In the "wish" window, does your mouse wheel scroll a long list of
files when it is offered? Indeed, the mouse wheel seems useless in
every part of the "wish" window.

Also the TAB key will jump nicely from item to item, until it gets
caught in the big shell dialog window at bottom and never makes it to
the four buttons on the very bottom.

Not sure, but I think this is a Tcl/Tk implementation issue & we can't
do a thing about it.

ditto. (can that window be made read only but still selectable for cut &
paste?)

Going backwards with "shift-tab" works.

Tk understands a MouseWhell event type, but the manpage implies that
it's specific to Windows. Alternatively, you may be able to bind
handlers to Button events for buttons 4 and 5.

Is done for gis.m.

In d.m wheel doesn't work (CVS 2006.06.19), although about a month ago it used
to output an error if tried (http://intevation.de/rt/webrt?serial_num=4466).
Was it an unseccussfell, then reverted, attempt to support wheel in d.m? Any
chances wheel will work in d.m?

File selection dialogs support wheel nicely.

"Options" panel in modules is quite OK, besides modules like v.to.db, where
scrolling parameters' selection lists (e.g. v.to.db's "Value to upload", i.e.
"option=" parameter) causes the whole panel to be scrolled, instead of the
parameters list alone.

"Output" panel is mostly scrollable, besides when mouse pointer hovers over
the grey belt with icons and command syntax - no scrolling then. If there is
not much space between subsequent grey belts, the panel is hardly scrollable
at all.

The TAB key circulates through the "Options" panel OK, only it shouldn't
bother stopping at the top icon (strange, why is it pressable?) next to module
description and at the bottom icon (the copy-command one).

Nice progress but still stuff missing. What are the plans?

Cedric added scroll wheel support in gis.m. I am not supporting d.m for any
more upgrades--just bug fixes. If someone else wants to add it, that's fine.

Cedric is working on the two above.

If this is layer options, I'll look at it and see if I can change this.

Except for above (and interactive x11 dependencies in a few C-Modules), what
is still missing?

Oh, so the http://intevation.de/rt/webrt?serial_num=4466 wasn't a sign
of trying to implement wheel in d.m. Do you know then why dis that
error appear first and then dissapeared after a month, when I checked
for it again?

Cool. So that's why we haven't heard from him lately - hidden and
coding! Good news. Or maybe just tired with fame :)?

Nice, thanks.

d.nviz doesn't start from d.m's icon, only prints "ERROR: Required
parameter <input> not set: (Name of existing raster map)." and help to
the terminal.

There are also many bug reports with "gis.m" and "d.m" in the title
still open. Some of them seem still valid I know, some I don't. Some
where never answered by responsible devs. Maybe you and Cedric might be
the best people to know which to close or how to comment them?

So, based on all of the many changes in d.m and then gis.m, is it fair to say
that this bug even exists any more? Should more recent tabbing/scrolling
functionality be bundled as a wish instead?

I believe so. It is mostly implemented but the implemenatation has bugs. The
current status of mouse wheel and tab key support is as follows:

Main gis.m window: fully done.

Main d.m window: done for layer properties, missing for layer list.

File selection dialogs: done.

Modules popup GUIs:

"Options" panel in modules is quite OK, besides modules like v.to.db, where
scrolling parameters' selection lists (e.g. v.to.db's "Value to upload", i.e.
"option=" parameter) causes the whole panel to be scrolled, instead of the
parameters list alone.

"Output" panel is partially scrollable. When mouse pointer hovers over
the grey belt with icons and command syntax - no scrolling then. If there is
not much space between subsequent grey belts, the panel is hardly scrollable
at all.

The TAB key circulates through the "Options" panel OK, only it shouldn't
bother stopping at the top icon (strange, why is this icon pushable?), next to
the module description.
