Subject: implementation of shereical earth
Platform: GNU/Linux/i386
grass obtained from: Mirror of Trento site
grass binary for platform: Downloaded precompiled Binaries
Please enter wish description here (and your name)
I would like to use Grass for the importing of CoastWatch AVHRR data. It is
projected in Mercator with a spherical earth having a radius of 6371200.0 meters
with a resolution of 1.47km/pixel at the equator. After import, I would like
to reporject into Lambert Azimuthal Equal Area (leae).

The experimental CVS code contains "sphere" now. But I
am not shure if it is working. Should be tested...

Can we confirm that spherical earth is working now (5.0 CVS HEAD)?
This is also needed for Mars and Venus.

When we were talking about Mars recently I made a change to
src/libes/proj/get_proj.c to pass the eccentricity squared instead of
recriprocal flattening as an ellipsoid parameter to PROJ (since rf would be
infinite for a sphere). So it should probably work now. But needs tested.
And if we knew the standard radius for spherical earth, spherical mars etc.
we could add them to src/libes/gis/ellipse.table (well I think earth is
already there but Mars could be added to emphasise that it is possible). |
