Subject: v.transform: V_ask error message: Illegal row in call to V_const

Platform: GNU/Linux/x86
grass obtained from: Trento Italy site
grass binary for platform: Compiled from Sources
GRASS Version: 6.3 cvs-src-snapshot 2006/10/07

Helmut Kudrnovsky:

grass6.3 cvs-snapshot 2006/10/07, but also grass 6.1 and grass 6.2 RC2

i find the unclear messages from v.transform in my own dataset, but it is reproducable
also with the spearfish60-dataset:

example with spearfish60:

v.transform
input=streams@PERMANENT
output=streams_tr45
xshift=-450000
yshift=0.0
zshift=0.0
xscale=1.0
yscale=1.0
zscale=1.0
zrot=0.0

unclear output-messages:
V_ask error: Illegal row (23) in call to V_const
V_ask error: Illegal row (23) in call to V_ques
V_ask error: Illegal row (23) in call to V_ques
V_ask error: Illegal row (23) in call to V_ques
V_ask error: Illegal row (23) in call to V_ques
V_ask error: Illegal row (24) in call to V_const
........

in both datasets (my own and spearfish) the messages start with Illegal row (23).

I get the same thing.

it sleeps between error messages, which is a pain.

you need to use the -s flag.

added a warning if no pointsfile was given and the -s flag wasn't used.

6.3cvs head + 6.2 branches.

closing bug.

is the interactive Vask part even functional?

Re-opening the bug.

I confirm it's not in v.transform. IMHO the option to provide the
transformation in a text file (pointsfile) should be left as is, and the
interactive part removed. I think it would be safe, because:

1. AFAIK, interactive v.transform never worked (did it?)
2. even if worked, interactive functionality it is not that likely to be used
in user scripts
3. I often heard that one of the current aims of GRASS is to get rid of
interactive functionality if possible - isn't this a good candidate?
