Subject: v.surf.rst, GUI: zcolumn defaults to

Platform: GNU/Linux/i386
grass obtained from: CVS
grass binary for platform: Compiled from Sources
GRASS Version: cvs 23.08.05

"zcolumn" dialog by default contains column name "flt1". Missleading. Shouldn't
contain any.

Correction:

This applies not only to GUI as I thought, but to v.surf.rst in general. Why
do we have a default for zcolumn? Should there really be one?

Maciek

we put it there as a convenience because flt1 is the default column
name if you use
v.in.ascii to import the point data (at least it was the last time I
tried it).
This way I can import and interpolate the way I did it
in GRASS5 without checking the column names. I don't think this is a
bug, this is a feature.

Why not? In interpolation 2D data must always have an attribute
(floating point, no categories). This makes sense to me.

No other 'column' option has a default value.=20
Column name can be any word, v.in.ascii without definition=20
of column names is just one possible way to create data
+ it creates columns dbl_1, dbl_2 etc.,
+ if you import x|y|val with v.in.ascii, the column names will be
dbl_1, dbl_2, dbl_3 so it would be necessary to have default=20
value for z dbl_3. Simply default value for input column name is=20
not a good idea.
