area: grass5beta11

platform: Linux/Intel

vendor: Debian

cputype: Intel (i486, i586, pentium ...)

xwindows: other

xwindows_other: X 4.0.2

windowsmanager: other

windowsmanager_other: Blackbox

tcltkver: tcl/tk 8.3

grassserver: CVS Server, Germany

cvsyesno: yes, I am using the latest GRASS from CVS

compiler: gcc

compiler_version: 2.95.3

bugreport: d.vect.cats consumes increasing amounts of memory. With very large
datasets it will eventually consume all available memory. It is clearly a memory
leak, but I couldn't quite track it down.

d.vect.cats is now deprecated. Similar functionality exists with d.vect, and
d.vect.area.
