Could there be an autodetection or switch to enable new ascii files import
into 5.4?

The reason may be that GRASS 5 ASCII was NORTH EAST
while GRASS 6 ASCII is EAST NORTH.

Did you enjoy the flag:
  -o   create old (version 4) ascii file
?

I don't see any possibility to autodetect the order of
EAST and NORTH.

Not me. It's a followup of somebody elses bug report, which I didn't want to
close for good yet 'at all events', when doing the the cleanup.
