grass obtained from: Other (CDROM etc)
grass binary for platform: Downloaded precompiled Binaries
GRASS Version: g.version

Upacked gzip'ed tar as instructed.

Installation directory was /usr/mnt.rom/card/.installation.

Fixed reference to path in bin.armv4l-unknown-linux-gnu/grass5

 as instructed.  Tried to start program...

bash-2.05$ grass5
/usr/mnt.rom/card/.installation/idist.armv4l-unknown-linux-gnu/etc/Init.sh: not
found

which CDROM do you use, when was the package generated?
The package got a couple of updates (see grass.itc.it).

It was "etc", not CDROM - I pull it from the web, off the Baylor site. 
 I think it was old (5.0), but that's what was on the site.
