Subject: Additional dependencies in Fedora rpm's

Platform: GNU/Linux/i386
grass obtained from: Other (CDROM etc)
grass binary for platform: Downloaded precompiled Binaries
GRASS Version: 5.7.0

I downloaded the recommended RPM's from http://ftp.intevation.de/users/silke/packages/fedora/RPMS/i3
86/
but there were still dependencies for installing gdal and grass. (PostGRESQL
libraries and unixODBC libraries). These were not very hard to install from
the respective project websites, but it would be helpful to new users to inform
us that we may need to install these additional libraries, how to install them,
or how to force an installation of grass without these libraries and the additional
functionality they provide.

(Many new users, myself included, find references to libpq.so.X very intimidating.)
Kind regards,

Michael Ash

where did you got the recommendation from?

Hm, I thought they are already provided as normal Fedora packages.
I am pretty sure you don't need to compile them on your own.

that is often a big problem to establish. However, once all packages
make it into the 'official' Fedora, there should be no major problem.
AFAIK, Silke is following this procedure at the Fedora bug tracking system.
