Subject: rpm

I have put some work into the rpm spec that Silke Reimer originally created a
couple of years ago. As far as possible I have tried to make the installation
relocatable to whatever directories the host system uses and expects. I also
put an effort at making the rpm build flexible --with options to rpmbuild. The
result is at http://gis.fundiaperu.com/rpms/grass-6.1.0-3.src.rpm and it is
far from perfect.

Would you please look at the spec and use it as a basis for your improvements?
Would you also consider putting it (or any other .spec) in the grass source
tarball, so that an rpm can be built directly from it with 'rpmbuild -ta
grass.tar.gz'?

On a side-note, some few changes to the Makefiles would make package building,
be it rpm, deb or pkg, much easier. All that's needed is to not assume that
the entire installation will be under --prefix.

Hi,

if you are interested, an updated version of the RPM specs
are in GRASS in rpms/ (maybe you used that):

http://freegis.org/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/grass6/rpm/fedora/grass_FC4.spec?rev=HEAD&content-type=text/v
nd.viewcvs-markup
It permits to easily switch on/off the various options.

Hi,

What's the status? Should I close this wish?

Thanks.

It seems that ZenonPanoussis has deleted the page:

The requested URL /rpms/ was not found on this server.

I replied to Maciek's question on the bug tracker, but for some reason
my reply was not recorded. So here it is again:

The FC4 .spec is better than the one I started with, but it still stuffs
all of grass in one place instead of using the RH/FC standard locations
%{_bindir}, %{_libdir}, %{_sysconfdir}, %{_docdir} etc. That's what my
.spec fixed, partly with a Makefile patch and partly by moving files
and tagging them appropriately.

Unfortunately, a hard disk failure a few weeks ago took the .src.rpm and
everything else on that server to data heaven. I don't have a backup and
I don't plan to start again from scratch.

WRT the future of the bug, basically I think that if nobody could even
be bothered to look at that .spec during the three months it was available,
the interest for a proper .rpm is microscopic to non-existent and the bug
can just as well be closed with WONTFIX.
