Subject: 'Create profile of raster map' of Map Display does not work properly.
Platform: GNU/Linux/x86

grass binary for platform: Compiled from Sources
GRASS Version: grass-6.2.cvs_src_snapshot_2007_01_13

Aldo Clerici. The 'Create profile of raster map' function in the Map Display
does not work properly. Sometimes only the axes (with values ranging from 0 to
0) are drawn but not the profile. Other times (randomly?) the profile is drawn,
but does not correspond to the raster map contents.

I'm not sure exactly what is the problem without more information. But the
TclTk profile module (I'm assuming that you are reporting problems with this
one and not the x11 d.profile module) seems to be working fine in the
current 6.3 cvs version. Perhaps it could be backported to 6.2?

Michael Barton,
First of all thanks for the quick answer.
I installed GRASS6.3 and the results are the same. But I discovered the
reason. I try to explain it.
During a previous session of GRASS I zoomed in a smaller area and I set =
the
new region with the option 'Set current region (WIND file) to match =
display'
of the 'Zoom to..' button of the Map Display. When I entered again =
GRASS,
the current region was the reduced one. I did 'Zoom to default region' =
of
the 'Zoom to..' button of the Map Display to display the entire area. =
Then I
entered 'Create profile of raster map' of the Map Display. The profile =
is
properly traced only in the reduced area. If the transect is outside =
this
area (also partially) only the axes are drawn in tha Profile Window.
I don't know if this is a correct behaviour (I confess I don't =
understand
completely the sense and pourpouse of the 'Set current region (WIND =
file) to
match display' function) but in any case the problem is solved; I have
simply to avoid that strange (for me) function.

Many thanks again.

Aldo Clerici

This function is to make GRASS "working region" match the region that you see
on the gis.m display. gis.m's "display region" is only for... display :).

You haven't specified whether you used d.profile or gis.m's profile tool. In
the first case, you would need to make GRASS region match the raster extent
(with g.region or d.zoom in X monitor) to be able to run d.profile OK. In the
latter case gis.m's profile tool should take care of that for you, and let you
create profile of the part of the raster visible on gis.m's map display.

In that case I'll close your report. Thanks!

> I have simply to avoid that strange (for me) function.

If you have any problems in future please ask for help on GRASS user mailing
list (http://grass.itc.it/community/support.php#userlists). Don't forget to
browse the archives first so you make sure the answer is not already there :).

Maciek
