Subject: g.region -p always displays the zone information

Platform: GNU/Linux/i386
grass obtained from: Mirror of Trento site
grass binary for platform: Compiled from Sources
GRASS Version: grass-6.0.cvs_src_snapshot_2005_02_12

Why is zone always displayed in g.region -p output?

| Projection: Transverse Mercator (zone 0)

My location is not UTM first of all so this info does not fit. Secondly the UTM
zone 0 is somewhere on the west coast of North America while my location is for
Poland, Europe, so this might be missleading.

SORRY! I meant r.info, not g.region!!! g.region is just fine!

Below is the appropriate report:

Please note that although the location and the raster are in Stereographic
projection there is "zone (0)" comment in the r.info's report.

The location is not UTM first of all so any "zone" info does not fit. Secondly
the UTM zone 0 is somewhere on the west coast of North America while the
location here is Poland, Europe, so this might be eventually missleading.

I have just corrected the name of the bug. To remain you what is on please see:
r.info N51E015
<snip>
Projection: Latitude-Longitude (zone 0)
<snip>

I think the '(zone0)' part is redundant and eventually misleading, isn't it?
This affects any location.

Cheers

IMHO it's difficult to define a list of projections where
ZONE applies. That's why it's always displayed.

EPSG knows thousands of projections. How to find all those
having a zone info?

OK, I understand. But, it has just jumped on me - why does r.info display
projection info anyway? There is g.proj (and g.region partially) for that.
E.g. v.info doesn't mention projection, let's keep things uniform.

I really think that such information like:

Projection: Stereographic (zone 0)

has no any value, and is only a confusion, especially for a newbie.

I have fixed this in 6.3cvs so it only prints zone if proj==UTM.

I expect the original idea was to display the contents of the raster map's
Cell_head:

struct Cell_head
{
..
    int proj; /* Projection (see #defines above) */
    int zone; /* Projection zone */
..
}

Currently it just prints out the location's projection info, which is pretty
useless except for providing "units" for the bounding coordinates.

Suggested remedy: change r.info to output what's in the rast map's header
info. (for better or worse: see v.info -- there it outputs the map's info.
Unfortunately that isn't correctly set very often)

keeping bug open for that, but renaming it.
