This is probably a misconfiguration at build time. Not a bug.

XDRIVER was built for FIFOs while mon.start was built for sockets.

There are two main possibilities:

1. Old object files weren't cleaned out with "make distclean" before
re-compiling.

2. src/display/devices/lib/main.c included the wrong config.h file.

To determine whether case 2 applies, check the order of the -I
switches in the compilation command which was used for that file. If
you didn't save the output from the build process, you'll need to
re-do it.

Used 'make distclean', './configure', 'make' = same problem
Deleted GISBASE, 'make install' = same problem

I noticed that there were no files in $GISBASE/dev except for
'create_fifos.sh' and 'create_ipcs.sh'. Previous error message was after
running 'create_fifos.sh' (Sorry, forgot to mention that in previous bug
post). Error with 'create_ipcs.sh' is:

> x0
Usage: x0 [-] "input_fifo output_fifo" [nlev]
ERROR - eof from graphics monitor.
Problem selecting x0. Will try once more
ERROR - eof from graphics monitor.

I don't have src/display/devices/lib/main.c and it isn't mentioned in that
directory's 'Gmakefile'.

Hmm. I suspect (based on create_ipcs.sh) that you in fact checked out the
main trunk from grass CVS instead of the active branch (sorry, it's confusing).
Try making distclean and then updating CVS sources using something like:

$ cvs update -dP -t releasebranch_11_april_2001_5_0_0

The whole IPC communication method was deprecated a while ago, so you
shouldn't even find a "create_ipcs.sh" in the "dev" directory (and by default
GRASS is using UNIX sockets in /tmp/grass-$USER/) and you shouldn't find any
FIFO's in the "dev" directory (just the create_fifos.sh script).

Should be "-r" instead of "-t"?

Thanks for the info. Did I miss this on the CVS page?

take care

Oops, yes "-r". It's somewhere on the GRASS pages, but it is easy to miss
(this isn't the first time this has happened). If that solves the problem,
please close this bug report.
