Subject: sockets missing

Platform: Linux/Intel
Linux distro:: SuSe
linux cpu:: AMD (K6, ...)
Xwindows version:: Xfree 4.0.x
Xwindows manager:: KDE 2.x
TclTk version:: tcl/tk 8.3
grass downloaded at:: CVS Server, Germany
grass binary for platform:: I compiled the sources myself
grass sources source:: yes, I am using the latest GRASS from CVS
c compiler name:: gcc

the README.xdriver script compiles the sources fine but then exits with
an ERROR 1 when trying to open create_sockets.sh script. That script
seems to be missing in the snapshot. It's not in CVS either.
As was to be exptected, I was not able to open an X monitor aftwerwards,
as the sockets files had not been generated.
The backingstore problem persists if I use the IPC Xdriver.
How can I make the sockets stuff work and finally get a clean monitor implementation
without refresh problems?

This was caused by an error in the Makefile and has been fixed in CVS. There
isn't supposed to be a create_sockets.sh file. The problem was that if the
XDRIVER was set for sockets there is no script to run. Both of the other
implementations needed to run a script. The check in the Makefile was not
written properly so it tried to run a script for sockets.

Please try the socket version again (it is the default now) and let us know of
any problems

Sincerly yours,
