Subject: d.m/gis.m: 'show attribute columns' button doesn't show anything

Platform: GNU/Linux/x86
grass obtained from: CVS
grass binary for platform: Compiled from Sources
GRASS Version: cvs 2006.01.17

although my vector file has a datable connected (DBF)...

GRASS 6.1.cvs (xy):~ > v.info -c vect_area_smooth
Displaying column types/names for database connection of layer 1:
INTEGER|cat
INTEGER|value
CHARACTER|label

...the "show attribute columns" button doesn't show anything in both d.m and
gis.m. This bug has been present since I've ever tried it the first time few
weeks ago in d.m.

Also: a new fancy button in gis.m, "show data" doesn't show anything - not yet
implemented or a bug?

This 'works OK on my machine' for d.m. It opens a small xterminal and outputs
the information in the terminal. It may be that opening a terminal is
problematic on some systems (I remember such an issue from awhile back; an
environmental variable needs to be set on some Linux systems).

For the new gis.m I've switched output from xterminal to a TclTk text box (the
output window)--again to standardize on not depending on xwindows for display.
Hopefully that will help those for whom opening an xterminal is problematic.
