Fri, Nov 29 2002 13:30:46    Request killed by bernhard
Subject: critical import and display by r.in.arc within cignus OS

Platform: WindowsNT/2000/XP
grass obtained from: Trento Italy site
grass binary for platform: Downloaded precompiled Binaries
GRASS Version: 5.0.0 pre3 jan 2002

We have grass5 under windows 2000 with cignus emulator.

With this input file:

<           ncols #                  >
<           nrows #                  >
<           xllcorner 0              >
<           yllcorner 0              >
<           cellsize 1               >
<           nodata_value -9999       >
<           ....................     >
<           ....................     >
<           ....................     >
<           ....................     >

we launch command:
GRASS> r.in.arc
with default parameters.

Sometimes, not always, alternatively for certain numbers of rows and columns
we obtain a raster and we can also display.
Some other times , with unknown logic, at displaying we have following system
error:

> WARNING: Fail of initial read of compressed file [layer100 in set1]
> WARNING: unable to open raster map [layer100 in set1]
> ERROR: Not able to open cellfile for [layer100]

May you help us, please?
Thanks very much.
Regards

This occurs when the row index can't be read (first message is from
src/libes/gis/format.c). Are you sure r.in.arc successfully imported
these rasters (r.in.arc did not report errors)?

These lines look suspicious. I don't think that any GIS will accept
them.

Emanuele, can we close this report?

BUG # 1460
[second part]

We launch the pgm.csh tc-shell script (like a csh in LINUX you know) =
from
GRASS5 prompt (in cygwin OS)
For example:

GRASS5>  pgm.csh 10 10

and we have a report in error.log file
we tested the program with a lot of different couples of rows and =
columns,
and some results are:
pgm.csh 10 10 ----> OK
pgm.csh 30 20 ----> OK
pgm.csh 30 50 ----> ERROR
pgm.csh 50 40 ----> ERROR
pgm.csh 10 50 ----> OK
pgm.csh 20 20 ----> ERROR
.................................. etc. etc.

(ERROR meaning: > ERROR: Not able to open cellfile for [ras30_50])

Can you help us?

Thank you very much.

It does not seem to be a critical bug -> lowering priority.

There has not been an answer from Emanuele for 8 month.
The procedure should be retested with the dubious lines deleted
and with a current version of GRASS.
Current is 5.0.2 where the bug was reported for 5.0.0 pre3.

Therefore I'm closing this bug report.
