Subject: nviz cutting planes freeze
Platform: Linux/Intel
Linux distro: RedHat
linux cpu: Intel (i486, i586, pentium ...)
Xwindows version: Xfree 4.0.x
Xwindows manager: GNOME
TclTk version: tcl/tk 8.3
grass downloaded at: Trento site
grass binary for platform: I compiled the sources myself
c compiler name: gcc
nviz freezes when cutting plane is on and an additional surface is added (for
example there are two surfaces and one cutting plane and I do New surface, add
a constant, it creates it and then nviz freezes all its windows - graphical and
all menus)
The fix may be complicated, because there is obviously a problem to apply the
cutting
plane to newly created surface. Quick fix may be just to give a message to user
that new
surface cannot be added when cutting planes are on.

I can't reproduce the problem. Can you provide a specific test case?
Also, are you using software OpenGL, or a hardware-specific version?
(what does "glxinfo" say?)

I think that I was able to narrow down the problem to the following:
When using cutting planes and switching on the bottom (B) coloring
button, all displayed (and cut) surfaces must have the same resolution,
if at least one has a different resolution, nviz crashes quite violently.
This is not a high priority, so it can wait for 5.0.1. It may be enough
just to give the user a message to change all resolutions to be the same
(rather than crash). This also explains why it was freezing or crashing
when a new surface was loaded, as it is usually loaded at lower resolution.
Also it will probably crash when T or mixed color button is on, but I haven't
tried it.
