Subject: source grass5.0.0pre2_src.tar.gz

Platform: SUN/Solaris2.6
grass downloaded at: Other
grass binary for platform: I compiled the sources myself
grass sources source: no, I got a source code package from the server

tar xvf grass5.0.0pre2_src.tar reports "directory checksum error".

I have downloaded this release several time, and also from Baylor with the same
results. Genrally tar is working well here.

Is there not the problem with the Pre2.src ?

Thanks

Marcel

Marcel,

did you try to download from
grass.itc.it
?

This file should be uncorrupted (I cannot do anything with Baylor...).

Kind regards

 Markus Neteler

Hi Markus,

well, certainly the ITC was the first choice. I have ignored the error
message using the "i" argument (tar xvfi). Perhaps this will work
(still I have not installed all the necessary libraries). Thank you.

Marcel

Hi Markus,

My opinion is that the distribution grass5.0.0pre2_src.tar.gz is not complete.
I have chcecked the tar file against the older distribution - grass4.3src.tar.gz
and there are missing some sources directories, e.g. sites, NVIZ, as well as
sample databases.

Thank you. Best wishes

Marcel

Hi Marcel,

do you use the Solaris tar or the GNU tar?
I remember that there have been some problems with an older version of Solaris
tar. From the mail header i see that you are on a Solaris 2.6 (SunOS 2.6)
Ultra Sparc machine. If you have root access to the machine you may install
GNU tar system wide, otherwise you could install GNU tar in your ~/bin dir.
I just d'lded the source file in question twice (with Netscape 4.7 and with
wget) and both source files are ok (tested on W2K with the cygwin tools and on
Linux).

HTH,

Andreas

Hi Andreas,

thank you for your answer. Yes I am using Solaris. We have tested the file on
Linux and realised that the problem is with the TAR. We have solved it. Thank
you again.

Marcel
