Subject: landscape generator - control patches

Platform: GNU/Linux/x86
grass binary for platform: Compiled from Sources
GRASS Version: cvs 11.01.2007

Hello,

the landscape generating modules in GRASS are great but it would be very
handy if you can control for size/shape/amount of patches (Total amount of
habitat in the window, amount of patches, mean patch size + stddev, shape +
stddev etc.)

Such a program existed (LSF), I contacted the authors of the LSF Program for
fragmented landscapes generation (Christina D. Hargis1, John A. Bissonette1
and John L. David (1998) The behavior of landscape metrics commonly used in
the study of habitat fragmentation. Landscape Ecology Volume 13, Number 3 /
June 1998)
This software was used to "generate artificial landscapes that mimicked
fragmentation processes while controlling the size and shape of patches in
the landscape and the mode of disturbance growth".
Unfortunately the program does not exist anymore (development stopped) and
the language was written for a software which is now proprietary hence it is
not available anymore.

Such a module would be very handy in conjunction with already existing
modules (landscape generater, r.li)

regards, Martin
