d.grid assumes that one wants to draw square grids.
I want to draw 800 x 500 grids

I do not fully understand your request. 
d.grid displays grids in map units on the display frame. 
I can seen no real usage in creating such a non-equal rectangular grid.

If you need such a grid you should create one with v.mkgrid as a vector layer
and display with d.vect.
