Subject: Can't get it to start
Platform: other
grass obtained from: Other (CDROM etc)
grass binary for platform: Compiled from Sources
GRASS Version: 5.0
When I try to run Grass all I get is a blank x window that is titled gis_set.tcl,
but there is no text or anything in the window, and when I close the x screen,
in the terminal I get
ERROR: LOCATION_NAME not set
/usr/lib/grass5/etc/Init.sh: line 345:GISDATABASE:parameter null or not full |

You could try starting it with
grass5 -text
and then, presuming it starts up fine in text mode, you could then try
starting up the graphic interface with
tcltkgrass&
Maybe then if there are problems with the graphic menu system there
might be some diagnostic error messages that you could report. Also,
if the problem is just in the menu system, you could at least get to
work using "normal" / text prompt GRASS.
In any case, the developers will likely need more information, such as
what platform you're on, etc...

Starting it in text mode did the trick, but about 5 hours later my computer crashed,
I don't know is grass had anythind to do with it or not. I think I will upgrade
to Mandrake 9.2 and try again.
