Mon, Jul 10 2006 15:32:09    Request created by guest
Subject: r.in.xyz:

Platform: GNU/Linux/x86
grass obtained from: Trento Italy site
grass binary for platform: Compiled from Sources
GRASS Version: Grass 6.1cvs compiled 2006-07-10

Here's the error I get when processing input xyz data:

r.in.xyz input=Creed_2006030_1 output=Creed_2006030_2 fs=space
Scanning data ...
*** glibc detected *** double free or corruption (fasttop): 0x0804d298 ***
Aborted

This error comes and goes...I can't seem to pinpoint what is causing it to occur.
The input xyz file is only 116MB. There's nothing remarkable about the data itself,
just 3 columns of space-delimited data.

how often do you see it?

the data file doesn't change?

1) can you run with `g.gisenv set="DEBUG=2"` ?

2) if you can't track it down can you make the dataset available to me?

I will not be able to act on this for some weeks as I will be away.

Hamish,

I wrote a script that used r.in.xyz -s to scan the extents of the input
ascii file and set the extents using g.region -a. Thinking that maybe I
should not modify the n,s,e,w extents just for the sake of having rounded
resolution values, I changed g.region -a to g.region, which seemed to cause
the error. I re-introduced the -a flag into the script and the file imported
no problem.

Could this be related tothe raster corruption issue you and Maciek were
talkng about?

~ Eric.
