We see
ps.map [-rpe] [input=string] [scale=string] [copies=string] [output=string]
We find however that if one omits output=string, the output does not
go to stdout, and we get a usage message. So the [] around
output=string are not optional it turns out. GRASS 6.0.0 (2005)

In GRASS 6.1 it is:

 ps.map [-rpe] [input=name] [output=name] [scale=mapscale]
   [copies=name]

fixed in CVS.

turns out it has to be optional so that the -p list page sizes and exit flag
works. The programs tests for a result internally, so all is well.
