The example based on spearfish60.
Grass61 cvs 21.06.2005.
GRASS 6.1.cvs (spearfish60):~ > g.region rast=elevation.10m -ap
projection: 1 (UTM)
zone: 13
datum: nad27
ellipsoid: clark66
north: 4928000
south: 4914020
west: 590010
east: 609000
nsres: 10
ewres: 10
rows: 1398
cols: 1899
1 ps.map input=spear_ps.txt output=spear_ps.ps
where spear_ps.txt contains:
raster elevation.10m
paper a4
top 0.0
bottom 0.0
left 0.0
right 0.0
end
2 Open in gv with "Automatic" paper size enabled:
- on the right paper canvas stands out of the frame, which is thinner here
than the bottom and left frame,
- on the top the frame is only slightly visible (almost not visible at all).
3 Force A4 size in gv:
- right frame dissapears for good, only a one pixel-wide column of paper
canvas is visible.
Similar behaviour on other setups.

I believe this bug has not been fixed yet. (at least not by me)
Bug 3372 was a duplicate and has been closed.

I don't see the problem with GRASS 6.3 feb 2007.
g.region res=100 -a
ps.map out=test.ps << EOF
raster elevation.10m
paper a4
top 0.1
bottom 0.1
left 0.1
right 0.1
end
border
width 5
end
EOF
Looks ok to me.
Margin size=0 is asking a lot, I doubt many printers will do that.
(maybe wanted for PDF fliers?)
Looks fine with margin=0 in gnome-gv and kghostview.
In gv I see no difference between paper=BBox and paper=A4.
The new 'border' controls might help mask any ugliness if it reappears.
Can we close this bug?

Not for me, with CVS 2007-02-17.
> Margin size=0 is asking a lot, I doubt many printers will do that.
Yeah, but ps.map should interpreted it properly anyway. Often I use ps.map to
create maps "just" for viewing or further processing in GIMP, so printer
capabilities are not that relevant here.

Good example.
> Looks fine with margin=0 in gnome-gv and kghostview.
For me it's still not good, however kind of different now than in my original
post:
in gnome-gv:
On the right and top the frame is almost not visible (I can spot it very thin
at ~400% zoom), using the defaulf BBox paper size
> In gv I see no difference between paper=BBox and paper=A4.
For me, after forcing A4, the top border becomes visible OK, on the right
still almost not visible as with BBox.
> The new 'border' controls might help mask any ugliness if it reappears.
It is neat, many thanks for this. However, I would prefer to avoid using it as
a workaround.
> Can we close this bug?
I'd rather not. Maybe there is something that could be done? I have put my ps
file here http://kufaya.googlepages.com/spear_ps.ps.bz2, if you wouldn't mind
looking at it. Maybe it is just my ghostcript setup. I'm using the default
Ubuntu Dapper's ESP 8.15.2. With AFPL 8.14 I get the same results. With GPL
8.15 things get even worse - the page orientation is not interpretted properly
by gnome-gv.
Interestingly, with each of the 3 interpretes the old-good gv always fails to
set right orientation for the ps.map output (while it used not to have such
problem when I was using it on Breezy, when reporting this bug). It always
forces portrait, and changing to landscape renders only half of the image.
