Subject: v.reclass -ability to reclass across layers
OGR makes it possible to import several shapefiles at one time from one source
directory. The result is one vector file, with each shapefile in the source
directory yielding a separate layer and thus, a separate .dbf file. However,
it appears that v.reclass can deal with only one layer and a such,
reclassification appears to be possible for a small area only within a larger
vector coverage.
It would be nice if:
1) v.reclass could work on more than just one layer, and
2) the layers of interest could be user-selected. |

Having studied the matter a bit further, it appears that being able to merge
(or "patch", or "overlay) layers (as obtained from the import of several shape
files from within one directory) would also be useful. This would resolve the
v.reclass issue noted earlier where each layer represents a different
geographic area within one large vector coverage (where several map sheets
were imported as separate shapefiles, each covering a separate geographic
area, to produce one larger coverage ... which is similar to v.patch but which
only "patches" topology and not attributes). It could also help "overlay"
several layers which all involve the same geographic coverage. As such, the
subject on this wish should perhaps be changed to "ability to patch and
overlay layers needed"? |
