Subject: r.in.bin/r.out.bin incompability

Platform: GNU/Linux/i386
grass binary for platform: Compiled from Sources
GRASS Version: 5.0pre4

When exporting a FLOAT raster data set using r.out.bin and the "GMT Style Header"-option,
the re-import by r.in.bin -h|-fh|-hf dies with the message "Bytes do not match
file size. Try bytes=8 or adjusting input parameters".

Hmmmm....?

Hi,

testing this:

r.out.bin -h elevation.dem output=gmtfile
Exporting Raster as integer values (bytes=2) <-- indication!
Writing GMT integer format ID=2
Using the Current Region settings ...
north=4928048.403359
south=4913678.403359
east=609027.947136
west=589947.947136
r=479
c=636

Prozent fertig:  100%
r.out.bin komplett.

r.in.bin -h gmtfile out=ddd
WARNUNG: Bytes do not match File size
WARNUNG: File Size 610180 ... Total Bytes 305536
WARNUNG: Try bytes=2 or adjusting input parameters

Maybe the GMT header doesn't carry the bytes=2 information.

r.in.bin help
...
   bytes Anzahl der Bytes pro Zelle (1, 2, 4)
            Standard: 1

So GRASS' default is 1.

r.in.bin -h gmtfile out=ddd bytes=2
 100%

Works. Since the program gives a correct suggestion, I'll
close the report. feel free to re-open if GMT headers do
carry the byte information.

Markus
