Subject: NVIZ top2 window doesnt resize
Platform: GNU/Linux/i386
grass obtained from: Trento Italy site
grass binary for platform: Downloaded precompiled Binaries
GRASS Version: 5.0.2
System Gnu-Linux Redhat 8.0
Trying to use NVIZ, for instance with Spearfish el=elevation.dem from within
Tcltk-gui.
NVIZ starts normally, it opens all windows i.e. nviz I/O, NVIZ (with the
grided raster file) and top2. But top2 is closed and I can either resize not
rescale, so that I have no access to the panel. I would like to send you a
snapshot.
Any idea?

I can just confirm that I had this problem too with RedHat8 and KDE.
It was rather random, sometimes it would open top2 but it would get
stuck
with other pannels. I thought that is a problem with my installation.
So I switched to gnome and it works OK there. I used nviz from command
line.
I can try it again - the top2 pannel should be re-sizeable, but for some
reason
it is not.

Dear Helena, thanks for the replay.
Indeed I am using KDE on the RedHat Laptop. As I dont have Gnome installed,
I
tryed
installing Grass5.0.2 on another machine runnig Mandrake 9.1 which ships with
KDE
3.1. There NVIZ runs just fine in KDE and Gnome. No bugs!
Just to complete, NVIZ didnt start for the first time because of the know
"cannot find
libtcl.so.0". I wondered that Mandrake didnt install these shared objects in
my
/usr/lib/
directory. I didnt find them on the Mandrake CD's. To solve this I just made
a
copy of
libtcl.so.0 and libtk.so.0 from my RedHat Laptop to the Mandrake machine. It
worked.
Hope this info helps.

I'm not sure that the following will create a window that does exactly what
one would want, but it solved the problem with the tiny, unresizable "top2"
window for me. I don't know enough about tcl to feel completely confident of
this solution, so someone else should verify the following patch. (I'm using
a
locally compiled version 5.0.2 GRASS on my Debian GNU/Linux system.)

Unless there is further comment I will close this bug.
There has been an "update" call added to cover this, AFAICT from the comment
next to it in the source code.
