Subject: v.digit can damage maps unexpectedly

Platform: other

GRASS Version: 5.7

Hi There

I've just been digitizing a map using v.digit (the GUI version), and have discovered
that even though I
had certain items hidden using the symbology tab of the settings pane, those
hidden items were still
affected by mouse clicks (result: a deleted line that I now have to re-digitize).
Also, I can't find a way of turning a complete boundary ring into an area - I've
looked at the tutorials
on the web, and also the help file, but the the latest help for v.digit is poor,
especially compared the
man pages produced for older versions of GRASS which have examples and a good
full explanation.

I would be happy to write an updated help page for v.digit, but I need to understand
it first!

All the best, and thanks for your help

This feature is unfortunately missing. My idea is to have a checkbox
"Close boundary and place new centroid with current category".

For now, you have to move last vertex and snap to the first one,
and manualy add centroid.

thanks - I think the checkbox is a good idea.

and thanks for all your efforts on GRASS - you should be VERY proud of
what you've achieved!

If are still there :) :

What do you mean by:

Does this problem still apply to 6.0.x/6.1?

Still here! I'm trying to remember. I think that I had hidden a
vector map that I was using as a background to the other vector map
that I was digitizing. What was happening was that I could click
through the visible layer to the hidden layer beneath, and thus edit
the hidden layer by mistake.

Hope that helps, but I'm happy to answer any more questions that you
have.

I'm hugely grateful for the work that has been done on GRASS by
people like you, so thank you!

All the best

Nick Green
