Subject: No generic binary for linux on x86 (GRASS 6.0.0)

Platform: GNU/Linux/i386
grass obtained from: Other (CDROM etc)
grass binary for platform: Downloaded precompiled Binaries
GRASS Version: 6.0.0

I think that download page should contain generic binary well identified for
the last stable release of GRASS. It is not very much work and it could be a
good pointer for distro independant download.

Regards,

Jean-Denis

I doubt that it's possible to build a generic Linux/x86 version of
GRASS, due to the large number of dependencies.

But anyway there is a "Generic GNU/Linux (ia32)" for Grass 5.4 and Grass 6.1
CVS snapshot. Will there be for Grass 6.01?

Did you mean "generic Linux/x86" as something else Glynn?

Best,
Maciek

It's quite some work to generate binary snapshot cronjobs.
We better "simply" release 6.0.1. Apparently there are no big
problems with RC2, so we can get it out next week.

I meant "generic" as in something which actually works on any
Linux/x86 system, rather than something which is merely advertised as
doing so.

If you download the "generic" version from the GRASS website, and run
it on a Linux/x86 system which is substantially different from the one
on which it was compiled, some components (especially NVIZ) may not
work correctly (or at all).
