Hi,
I would like to use GRASS 6.0 on my MacBookPro laptop. I installed Grass6.0 from
the Grass site and installed X11 from the MacOS X installation CD. Problems appear
when I want to start Grass:
- < double click on Grass6.0 icon >
--> start window appears
- < click on the start button >
--> the xterm window appears
--> after a while the following message appears:"X11 got an error: AppleEvent
timed out. (-1712)"
Thank you for your help
Caroline

Can you be a little more specific about how you installed GRASS? I.e. when you
say you got GRASS from
the GRASS site, did you take source code and compile, or download the pre-compiled
software? I'm
guessing you got pre-compiled (binaries), but then there are at least three different
sources listed at
http://grass.itc.it/grass60/binary/macosx/ - Lorenzo Moretti's binaries, OpenOSX's,
and fink's. I'm
guessing it's one of the first two.
Cheers,
Scott Mitchell

I think it was Lorenzo Moretti's binaries: "GRASS-OSX-6.0.0-1.dmg".
Cheers,
Caroline

Caroline,
Your problem is propably not a bug in Grass but related to this particular
platform/package.
I'm not a Mac user so I can't help you much.
I recommend contacting the packager (who is Lorenzo Moretti in this case) and
if that doesn't help, asking on the Grass user's list
http://grass.itc.it/mailman/listinfo/grassuser where you can find many
helpfull folks.
I'll close this ticket then. If you find out though that this IS a bug in
Grass anyway, please re-open this report by simply replying to this message
with further details.
Good luck,
Maciek

Maciek,
The problem is solved now thanks to Apple: when starting the X11.app =20
the full screen option must be enabled in the preferences. Now Grass =20
starts without problems.
Cheers,
Caroline
