Subject: grass5pre4 tcltk error under OS X

Platform: other
grass obtained from: Trento Italy site
grass binary for platform: Downloaded precompiled Binaries
GRASS Version: 5.0pre4

when calling tcltk from within grass5, the following error message appears:
GRASS 5.0.0pre4 > Error in startup script: can't read "env(TCLTKGRASSBASE)":
no such variable
    while executing
"source $env(TCLTKGRASSBASE)/main/menu.tcl
"
    (file "/usr/local/grass5/bin/tcltkgrass" line 22)

[1] Exit 1 tcltkgrass

This error did not exist with grass5pre2, but begun yet with grass5pre3. I encountered
a similar bug report (#913) in the list, but it was not really resolved, as the
user did not respond to a request of further information.

I am looking forward for any advice,
many thanks,

Guido Lorenz

I had the exact same problem, so I:

rm ~/.grassrc5
source /etc/csh.cshrc /etc/csh.login

and it worked just fine.

The stated solution did not fix the problem for me. However, the problem was
fixed by keeping the original .grassrc5 file, but changing the GRASS_GUI
variable to tcltk, causing Grass to start up in TCLTK mode.
