As a library, it presents a \link gdal_datamodel.html single abstract data model\endlink to the calling application for all supported formats. It also comes with a variety of useful \link gdal_utilities.html commandline utilities\endlink for data translation and processing. The \link NEWS.html NEWS\endlink page describes the January 2007 GDAL 1.4.0 release.
