Programme Overview on web site?

Posted by Peter Batty on June 12, 2013

Hi all,

I was just on the web site to register, and was trying to work out when I should arrive and leave in Nottingham, and struggled to figure that out. I think it would be really helpful to have a programme overview in the programme section, that lays out an overview of everything. There is one of these under "About" at http://2013.foss4g.org/dates/ and that's the sort of thing I was looking for, except that the site says that this one is out of date.

So I think it would be really useful to have an up to date overview of proceedings (including GeoCommunity), in the programme section of the site.

Cheers,
    Peter.

Good idea Peter

@Rollo @Antony any chance of working some magic overnight?

Antony Scott on June 13, 2013:

I could have a look later today (prob this eve).

Antony Scott on June 14, 2013:

Have put together a summary overview of the programme on the Programme page of the site. Needs a bit of prettifying/linking, but does this cover it? http://2013.foss4g.org/programme/

Rollo Home on June 14, 2013:

Thanks Antony - can we also lose this one? http://2013.foss4g.org/dates/
It's confusing at this stage of things.

Antony Scott on June 14, 2013:

Good idea – have taken the page down.

Steven Feldman on June 14, 2013:

Suggestion from me would be to take out the workshops on Thursday-Saturday and just show the main conference

Do we need to duplicate the programme overview or link to it when people land on http://2013.foss4g.org/registration/ ?

Antony Scott on June 14, 2013:

Done

Steven Feldman on June 14, 2013:

Thx :)

Barry Rowlingson on June 15, 2013:

There's no overview of what's happening when on the web site now. Or at least I can't find it.

Should there not be a 'Dates' page under About that says minimally when the hackathon is, when the main workshops are, the presentations are, and so on?

Barry Rowlingson on June 16, 2013:

Ah, the overview timetable is off the bottom of the page of Rollo's /programme/ page. I really think people look for this info under 'Dates' somewhere.

Can I also suggest the times get put at the top of that page. I'm also a bit unsure about including AGI GeoComm stuff on that timetable too, especially since the text doesn't explain that's a whole other conference.

Steven Feldman on June 16, 2013:

I have moved the table with the programme overview to the top of the programme page. I think Barry is right about the AGI stuff, could someone draft a very short explanation or do we remove? THe HTML for the tables was a step too far for me to try and remove!

I have created a page under About called Overview and copied the programme overview there, I don't know if that is the best way to get the message over and it certainly isn't pretty but hopefully it is better than nothing

Barry Rowlingson on June 16, 2013:

I think I'd insist the word 'Dates' or 'Schedule' or "When"  or something temporally significant appears on the menus.

Perhaps after removing the AGI stuff from the table we could add some text afterwards - "The GeoHack and Workshop days overlap with the AGI GeoComm conference also at Nottingham" with appropriate hyperlinks.

Steven Feldman on June 16, 2013:

Scheduled

Barry Rowlingson on June 17, 2013:

Have edited the tables on both pages and added some text about AGI GeoComm.
