Hi Jeremy,

This one may of already been taken care of as I know that Ian had discussed this with you but Andrea from GeoSolutions sent a mail to follow up this morning so I thought I'd be sure.

Andrea sent over the following instructions:

Here you can find the win64 package:
http://geoserver.geo-solutions.it/downloads/training/windows/64/
and here the win32 package:
http://geoserver.geo-solutions.it/downloads/training/windows/64/

Testing wise, it's all about unpacking the zip, getting on the command line, and running in sequence:
- setenv.bat
- postgis_start.bat
- tomcat_start_1.bat
- udig.bat

and then play a bit with the GeoServer GUI, preview some layers, to
check nothing major is broken (http://localhost:8080/geoserver)

If you want to be more thorough and try something from the actual workshop,
you can start here:
http://geoserver.geo-solutions.it/downloads/training/windows/64/en/install_run/wai.html

If you need any help just let me know by mail, or contact me on skype, my skype id
is aaime74

GeoSolutions are running workshops in Trent (http://2013.foss4g.org/conf/programme/workshops/2/) and Sir Clive Granger Building: B29 A (W19 & W20 http://2013.foss4g.org/conf/programme/freeworkshops)

Cheers,

Matt.

I'll go and check this this afternoon.

Jeremy Morley on August 23, 2013:

OK, to my surprise I've got it to work. I unzipped the 32-bit version on my own machine and copied on to a 2GB memory stick which it just about fills (a spare OSGIS one in fact). I then went to the cluster and logged in, and put the USB drive in.

Following the instructions above everything came up and worked apparently fine (usually slew of warnings, etc, from Geoserver but nothing fatal that I saw). I ran it all off the USB drive just fine, as well as a copy on my network drive.  Geoserver is a little slow coming up (a minute perhaps), and similarly uDig (30s maybe) but are fine once up.

I'd suggest that it's simplest to provide the package on USB drives if the workshop organisers have the budget. Not sure where we'd be able to put the package for everyone to see, especially as they'd see the same service. For some reason it was not reliable to get the ZIP file to unzip locally.

If we can't run from a Live booting system (USB or DVD) then we should go ahead and request a suitable number of guest logins to support the workshop.

Jeremy

PS: perhaps don't pass this on in the first instance but I do have a stack of spare OSGIS USB thumb drives like the one I used for the test that we could possibly use for this.

Matt Walker on August 23, 2013:

That's great news thanks Jeremy. I'll let them know.

I'll look to divide the list of presenters that need contacting tonight between Ian E, Jo and myself and we can follow up over the next few days.

Cheers,

Matt.

I've email further about this - looks like we can run off a local drive in Windows (but I must get the associate account sorted!)
