Barry Rowlingson is a Research Associate in the School Of Health
and Medicine at Lancaster University in the UK. His research is in
the field of spatial statistics, mostly applied to disease outbreak
modelling and prediction. 

He has contributed to several open-source projects, most notably
the R statistical software system and Quantum GIS.
