Additional Workshops at FOSS4G 2013

Posted by Matt Walker on May 22, 2013

Hi,

I've now sent the spreadsheet over to Paul Ramsey for the community vote for additional workshops. This is what I'm intending to send to the discuss and conference list. Any comments welcome.

Additional Workshops at FOSS4G 2013

We're are pleased to announce that we have managed to secure some additional rooms suitable for running workshops during the main conference. These workshops will be available to all delegates and will be ran on a first-come, first-served basis on the day.

Paul Ramsey has kindly agreed to run a round of community voting for the workshops which we will use for the selection. Further details to follow shortly.

Sounds good. If it was up to me, I'd say "make it so"

Barry Rowlingson on May 22, 2013:

Not sure I understand the first come first served thing. I might pay for a
workshop but then not get in? Or are they free?

Matt Walker on May 22, 2013:

Good point Barry, probably needs to be clearer. The intention is for them to be free for delegates.

Matt Walker on May 22, 2013:

How about:
These workshops will be free to all delegates and will be ran on a first-come, first-served basis on the day.

Apologies if I've missed something.
I've had an email from Steven Pousty asking where we are with the community workshop selection.
Thanks.

Hi Ian,

I sent the spreadsheet over to Paul Ramsey last week, we're now waiting for him to get set up. I'll ping him today to just make sure he's happy with what's provided.

Cheers,

Matt.

Ian Holt on May 28, 2013:

Thanks Matt. Do we have dates, even rough ones, that I could feed back?

Matt Walker on May 28, 2013:

Not yet, I'll see what Paul says

Ian Holt on May 28, 2013:

Ok. Thanks.

Matt Walker on May 28, 2013:

Hi Ian,

Just had the following from Paul when I asked if he's received the spreadsheet:

Matt,
Have done, but been distracted by travel (MSP last week, QC today). I can get it running in a day or so, I'm sorry about the delay,

Matt Walker on May 29, 2013:

I've just heard from Paul Ramsey that the community vote for workshops is now available here: http://community-review.foss4g.org/.

I've asked that the sentence regarding the number of workshops be removed. I'm going to have a run through end-to-end in the morning and assuming there are no issues I think we're good to announce it to the world.

Steven Feldman on May 29, 2013:

Is 6th june ok date?

Ian Holt on May 30, 2013:

Thanks Matt. I have a couple people asking about the vote.

Rollo Home on May 30, 2013:

Let us know when we can tweet.......

Matt Walker on May 30, 2013:

I'd of thought the 6th of June should be fine as long as we get the word out today and remind people regularly. I've just ran through the process and it only takes 10 mins if you read the summaries.

@rollo I think we're ready to announce. I'll do a follow up post to the conference list and discuss now.

Thanks,

Matt.

Go for it :)
