Kicking Off Workshops and Coding

Posted by Mark Iliffe on July 13, 2012

Everyone, we need to get the drop on our vision for the workshops and coding sprints. If we want to connect with larger groups like Random Hacks Of Kindness, we'll need to lay the ground work now. This includes clarifying the role and dates of the workshops and how they feed into (or not) with the code sprints/larger hackathon.

We also need clarity around the legacy and the projects we can help with this process. Should we advertise for 'open source acceleration' for code sprints -ie. we plug them- or should be anarchic alongside the suite of OSGEO projects - is this a good idea? - etc.

I propose a Skype meeting for next week, say Tuesday morning, around 1000?

Hi Mark,

A call sounds like a good plan to let us get some thoughts together. It's probably worth us all looking over the previous FOSS4G workshops and codesprints linked from http://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/FOSS4G to get a feel for what's the norm/expected. My feeling is we need to ensure we satisfy the core traditional audience with codesprints and workshops related to OSGeo projects as well as some fresh ideas.

I'm walkermatt on Skype and 10:00 Tue suits me fine.

Cheers,

Matt.

Also, there's the AGI connection to think about - ie doing workshops that AGI attendees might want to hang on for (even if they don't stick around for FOSS4G).

Matt Walker on July 17, 2012:

Hi,

I assume the call didn't happen today, I'm available tomorrow or Friday if we want to do it this week. What about everyone else?

Matt.

Mark Iliffe on July 18, 2012:

Agreed Barry, I propose we investigate pulling in some outside 'branding'. We could get a Random Hacks of Kindness satellite event, which would pull in a lot of outside interest, but would shore up our humanitarian credentials. Having an event like this would also be really cool!

Matt, you need to accept my contact request on skype! ;-)

Tomorrow afternoon or Friday works for me.

Mark Iliffe on July 24, 2012:

Friday at 1000, sharp all. My Skype is 'markiliffe' please add me. For this without Skype, we'll find a way.

Matt Walker on August 3, 2012:

Hi Mark,

Sorry I missed this morning very busy at the moment with a few projects about to go live and it slipped my mind. If we want to reschedule for next week then Tue, Wed or Thu work best for me.

Matt.

Mark Iliffe on August 3, 2012:

No problems Matt, it's a busy time for all of us. How does Wednesday 1000 suit all?

Matt Walker on August 5, 2012:

That's good for me, especially as I'm then off Fri 10th - Wed 15th inclusive.
