Idea for a trip

Posted by Jo Cook on September 17, 2012

After reading this: http://bldgblog.blogspot.co.uk/2012/09/caves-of-nottingham_11.html

I'd love to know if we could arrange a tour of some of the caves as one of the social events for FOSS4G?

Hey Jo - well the caves in the Broadmarsh shopping centre are open as a commercial activity. In fact you can get a combined ticket between them and the Galleries of Justice (the old courtroom & jail). And the passage through the castle rock can be visited as part of a visit to the Castle. So it should certainly be possible. I'm not sure we'd get 800 through these locations, so I had thought that we'd try to make this one of our Friday night destinations.

I'm about to start a document here in Basecamp to track evening-out locations (I was at Nottingham's dog track on Saturday. They have a glassed-in restaurant overlooking the track (with Tote betting at the table) which will seat up to 340 and which makes a fun evening out too).

So the current choice is between caving in or going to the dogs?

Just looking at the Nottinghamshire tourism site, there's a whole "Pilgrim Fathers" connection about an hour's drive N of Nottingham. Clearly too far for an evening, but we could stick that on the web site under 'things to do for an extra day' and it might appeal to the US geofoss4gers.

As the non-local LOC member Nottingham for me said: Robin Hood. Surely there's a Sherwood Forest tour...?
