Access to Basecamp

Posted by Barry Rowlingson on September 24, 2012

Do we have a policy for who can access this Basecamp site? Ian Edwards would like to join, to keep in touch with whats going on at a finer scale than the email list for the benefit of osgeo-uk

And also to see if he can help anywhere.

We don't have a policy but we should agree one because I am sure we will have further need to consider other participants.

One thing we need to consider is the need to maintain some privacy on basecamp discussions (although we will be publishing the whole site as an archive after the event)

Any thoughts on criteria?

Jo Cook on September 25, 2012:

Since Mike showed me how, we do have the ability to limit who we send notifications to about discussions- but I'm not sure whether that hides discussions from them if they go looking around on the site. I'll see what I can find out

Steven Feldman on October 2, 2012:

we need to reach an agreement on this.

One solution might be to create a second project for the AT and shift all AT conversation to that but grant members of the LOC access as well so that we can track what is going on.

I am still uncomfortable about changing this basecamp from a private group to allowing a broader participation but I will go along with the majority

Rollo Home on October 2, 2012:

We can have another basecamp project setup for the AT (I have space under my licence to handle this) - they can manage as they see fit and invite who ever then.....

Barend Köbben on October 2, 2012:

Although that is possible, I'd consider it overkill. The only 'problem' the AT has right now is that Franz-Josef Behr is AT co-chair but not LOC and therefore cannot see/edit the documents on Basecamp. We can either add him to Basecamp or I can make sure I copy relevant docs and messages to him, either way works for me...

Mark Iliffe on October 5, 2012:

Who has been adding new people to basecamp, outside of the LOC?

Jo Cook on October 5, 2012:

Me, I was asked to add the people in the AT ages ago. They are split into "companies" to make it easier to say who should receive notifications about messages. Unfortunately in "new Basecamp" that doesn't equate to actual privacy, ie they can still go and read the messages if they like. I think the discussion is whether to give them their own project and remove them from the main one.

I was confused to who the new people posting in the track were. I didn't see a resolution either to the discussion, but that may be down to me. Wish newbies would introduce themselves, but that could be me being cranky.
