Abstract submission pattern in 2011

I dug back in my archives and found the following stats on when abstracts were submitted:
Total submitted: 253
Final day: 118 (47%)
Day before last: 60 (24%)
Two days before last: 24 (9%)
Previous 2.5 months: 51 (20%)
Just posting for some (sort of) reassurance ... well "reassurance" that you will probably be nervous about the number of abstracts until the call closes, but think this happens every time! I lean against extending the deadline unless really necessary, I always think it sends a message of lack of interest in an event (and I always smile at the way that conference organizers always say something like "due to huge interest, we have extended the submission deadline").
