About Beijing

Beijing is is the capital of the People's Republic of China and one of the most populous cities in the world, with a population of 19,612,368 inhabitants, as of 2010. The metropolis, located in northern China, is composed of 14 urban and suburban districts and two rural counties. Beijing Municipality is surrounded by the Hebei Province.

In summer 2008, the 29th Olympic Games drew worldwide attention to Beijing. As the host city of the Olympics and Paralympics, Beijing warmly welcomed its friends from around the world. The Government of the People's Republic of China promoted the Games and invested heavily in new facilities and transportation systems for the city.

Beijing is world-famous for its trove of historical sites and enchanting natural scenery, making it a compelling tourist destination.
