"Victoria is located on the picturesque southern tip of Vancouver Island. Visitors can enjoy the beautiful scenery, go whale watching, fishing, tour the world famous Buchart Gardens, and visit one of the best museums in Canada. Victoria is also a hub of Open Source GIS development with many companies and government organizations taking part in bringing GIS to the masses. Many familiar FOSS GIS projects are developed in British Columbia, such as: JTS, GeoServer, UDig, Geotools, GDAL, Jump, and of course PostGIS."
"British Columbia has always been a large arena for GIS, with much of the funding, research, and resources coming from its political center. Furthermore, Victoria's beauty and tourism infrastructure would make it an ideal setting for any conference."
"Canada in general and BC in particular is on the leading edge of managing and processing geospatial data, and there's a lot of interest in FOSS geospatial software both from users and developers. Victoria is a great venue for a conference, and should see a lot of attendance from people in Canada and the West Coast."
