About WFS and WMS

MapGuide Enterprise and MapGuide Open Source support publishing of maps through web services. Web services are becoming increasingly popular as a way of displaying commonly-used spatial data in a map. There are two types of web services: WFS, which stands for Web Feature Service, and WMS, which stands for Web Mapping Service. Both of these are standards developed and maintained by the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC).

WFS allows you to publish feature (vector-based) data, such as political boundaries or transportation networks. WMS allows you to publish raster data, such as satellite photographs or scanned topo maps. When a map author is creating a map, he or she can choose to make the map available by means of WMS or WFS.

The Configure WMS and Configure WFS pages allow you to enter mandatory and optional information about the web services provided on your site.
